The Stone Curlew in Britain is listed in the Red Category. This means it is a rare breeding bird, with perhaps only about 250 pairs in total.
The largest concentration in the UK is to be found in the Norfolk and Suffolk Brecklands. Of all the Norfolk Wildlife Trust's nature reserves Weeting Heath is without doubt the prime breckland site to observe this bird. Birdwatchers visit this site every year to cath a glimpse of this and several other breckland birds.
Summer visitors to the UK, birds usually start to arrive following migration from March onwards and remain until September. Individuals have been recorded in November and February!
Once breeding is complete birds begin to gather in pre migratory flocks, they tend to have preferred areas for this and numbers have been recorded in the 90's!
