ABBEY FARM FLITCHAM

Although this site is a little off the route of most visiting birders to the county it is an excellant all year site and well worth taking the trouble to visit. Little Owl, Kingfisher and Tree Sparrow are regularly seen throughout the year with many thousands of Pink-footed Geese seen during the winter. Other species recorded has included Common Buzzard, Red Kite, Mandarin and Little Gull.

There is a small car for about 6 cars and a hide. The farmer manages the whole farm with wildlife in mind and also grows some organic produce!

The main focal points are the series of pools in front of the bird hide. These lie close to the Babingley River. There are a number of trees and bushes in the area including Oak, Hawthorn, Gorse and Goat Willow. These hold numerous finches and warblers depending on the time of year.

DIRECTIONS

From King's Lynn head east on the A148 Fakenham/Cromer road. As you drive through the village of Hillington you will notice on your left the stone wall boundary of Hillington Hall. At the point where the wall turns there is a road to the left signed Flitcham and Bircham. Take this road and drive up to Flitcham village. In thre village where the road bends to the left there is a right turn on to Abbey Road. After about half a mile you pass Abbey Farm on your right and very shortly after this there is a sign on a wall 'Abbey Farm Bird Hide' Drive down the narrow track and park up. It is but a short walk to the hide.
